About Stuart McKinven


Stuart McKinvenIn 1999, Stuart McKinven graduated from Glasgow College of Building and Printing with an HND in furniture Design and Manufacture. He also completed a foundation course in Art and Design.

He helped form the Woodschool furniture collective in the Scottish Borders, where he was involved in product development together with the design and manufacture of both individual and low volume multiple run quality pieces.

Later, with assistance from the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust he established his own business designing and making bespoke furniture to commission.

Stuart’s approach to making combines an appreciation of traditional skills and respect for materials with a more contemporary design attitude and a passion for working in wood.
Taking inspiration from natural forms and materials, he strives to create high quality furniture which meets the vision of the client.

  • Live Wire Regional Finalist 2002
  • Bank of Scotland Small Business Award 2003

In addition to commissions for private individuals, Stuart has also carried out work for various Public/Commercial clients such as :-
